Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) is an organized collection of data based on the relational model invented by Edgar Codd.


Edgar Codd, or Edgar Frank Codd, born August 19, 1923, in Fortuneswell, England, was a computer scientist at International Business Machines (IBM).

Edgar Codd passed away on April 18, 2003.


Oracle Database version 2.3, first commercially-available SQL-based RDBMS, was released in 1979.

Microsoft SQL Server version 1.0 was released in 1989.
