Microsoft PowerShell


Microsoft PowerShell, or Microsoft Windows PowerShell, is a task-based command-line shell and scripting language developed by its chief architect, Jeffrey Snover, at Microsoft.

PowerShell is based on Microsoft .NET Framework.

PowerShell version 1.0 was released on November 14, 2006.

PowerShell version 2.0 was released.

PowerShell version 3.0 was released .

PowerShell version 4.0 was released.

PowerShell version 5.0 was released on February 24, 2016.

PowerShell version 5.1 was the last release based on Microsoft .NET Framework.

PowerShell version 6.0 was released on January 10, 2018.

PowerShell version 7.0 was released on March 07, 2017.


PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment (ISE) is a host application for PowerShell.

PowerShell ISE was introduced in PowerShell version 2.0, but it will no longer be supported on PowerShell version 6.0 and beyond.
